I work with stoneware clays, using glazes made with wood ash, coloured with oxides and, on the domestic ware, some slips under the glaze.

The domestic ware is all suitable for dishwasher, oven and microwave. This pottery is for everyday use and the decoration and glazes are designed so that every piece is a pleasure to handle and use.

My current interest is in texture and form, and the cratered glazed forms with their smooth interiors give an impression of movement  and energy,  The craters are a result of five layers of glaze painted onto the pot.  The first few layers are of an earthenware glaze coloured with various stains and oxides, and the final layers are of a very dry stoneware glaze.  The pieces are fired to around 1280 degrees centigrade and the lower layers of glaze bubble, but are held in place by the stiff upper layers.  When the piece comes from the kiln the bubbles are intact, and I grind them down to reveal the glazed crater.

With the same themes of movement and energy in mind I have been working on various garden sculptures.  Some of these outdoor pieces combine steel and ceramic.

I had my workshop in Burford for twelve years, but I now live and work in Worcestershire, where I have a larger workshop and showroom which is open to visitors. 

I am happy to undertake commissions.
